Keep Your Family Safe This Summer

Summer is here! School’s out, days are longer, and the weather is warm. While a lot of fun is sure to happen, it's also a time when kids are extra active, and accidents can occur. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, millions of children under 14 visit emergency rooms each summer due to unintentional injuries. At The Good Pool Company, we care about your family's safety and enjoyment. Here are our top tips to keep your child safe this summer.

Stay Hydrated

Arizona's summer heat can be intense, especially in Scottsdale and Phoenix. Ensure your kids stay hydrated by having them take frequent water and snack breaks. Children often ignore signs of heat exhaustion, so you may need to enforce regular breaks. Fun, reusable water bottles can help keep them motivated to drink up!

Designate a Water Watcher

Drownings can happen in an instant. Always have an adult actively watching your child when they are near a body of water. If you need to step away, even for a moment, assign another adult to be the water watcher. A safe pool is a happy pool, and our pool service ensures your pool is always ready for safe enjoyment.

Always Check Water Conditions

Before rafting or boating, check the weather forecast. Ensure all children, even those who can swim, wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket, regardless of the water conditions. Safety should always come first when enjoying water activities.

Use Sunscreen

The Arizona sun is harsh, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Ensure your children are protected by applying sunscreen regularly. Children under one year old should avoid direct sunlight during these hours. Set a good example by applying sunscreen on yourself too.

Never Leave a Child Alone in a Car

Even with the windows rolled down, the inside of a vehicle can become dangerously hot in just 10 minutes. Never leave a child alone in a car, as this can quickly become a deadly situation.

Don’t Play with Fireworks

Fireworks are fun to watch but can be extremely dangerous. Sparklers get hot enough to melt metal and should never be handled by a child under three years old. Always supervise any use of fireworks to prevent life-threatening injuries and burns.

Fire Safety

Keep children away from grills, campfires, or bonfires. Always have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby when there is a fire burning. If your child is burned, run cool water over the burn for five minutes—never apply ice. If the burn blisters or looks leathery, seek immediate medical attention.
